the night is young.

Hello! I am dedicating my very first blog post today to the two books I am reading at the moment: The Soul Is Here For Its Own Joy by Robert Bly, and The Picture of Dorian Gray by *the amazing* Oscar Wilde. Clearly I was doing some soul-searching in my most recent literary selections, but I'm always looking to supplement my thriller/love story/cry your freaking eyes out reads with some feel-goods such as these that are artistic and inspirational. I like the little pattern I have while reading these two, I grab for The Soul Is Here For Its Own Joy whenever I want a quick read, because well… they're poems! The thing I love most about poetry is the impact they can make in as many or as few words possible, and the versatility of styles and rhythms. When I miraculously have a few spare hours or a free night during the week, I am going to lean towards The Picture of Dorian Gray, because this is one that demands your attention, it's one of those you can read over-an-over and you'll find something new each time. Although I cannot yet call myself a blogger, I am very excited to see where this venture leads and get to share my experiences, and hopefully learn how to properly work this blog along the way! xxPM

  1. Thanks for posting on your two books. I am quite impressed that you read poetry, and Robert Bly especially. Not a lot of young people like to read poetry.

    1. Poetry is by far my absolute favorite subject matter to read, I think it depicts one's mind in a more realistic way than the spoken word or more formal style of writing. I am always interested in finding new authors to explore so any suggestions would be lovely!

  2. Payton, I find it interesting that you love poetry. While interviewing people earlier this semester, we found through class discussion that poetry is confusing to the majority of people within our age group, myself included. I can appreciate poetry, but I often find that I do not have the energy that is required to fully understand and embrace it. Have you always been interested in poetry? Writing and reading it? I would like to grow o understand it easier, so please let me know if there are any poets that are good to start out with!
